Concept
Where the lion lived in a world of cells, the monster lived in ours. It walked beside real people and wound around them, always close. They did not fight it or run from it. They carried on with their day, which is what life with a chronic condition looks like. Every part of the creature was formed from mast cells, so the metaphor and the biology were one and the same.

Production Process

We photographed three people of different ages, so each portrait felt real and personal. The monster and the mast cells were then sculpted as 3D models, following medical reference images approved by the medical team. Every cell was arranged to form the creature's body and wrap around each person naturally. The CGI was integrated into the photography with carefully matched lighting, shadows, and atmospheric effects, and refined in post-production. The result was a photorealistic fusion of photography and CGI, with the monster feeling physically present in the scene.

Conclusion

The monster never left the frame, and neither did the people. Together they showed life with a chronic condition as it is: ongoing, but livable.
