The shingles virus can remain dormant in the body for decades, often reactivating after the age of 50. This campaign for GSK’s Shingrix vaccine draws on a universally familiar moment : blowing out candles on a 50th birthday to visualize that reactivation. A serpent of smoke rises from the flame: subtle, quiet, and unmistakable.

Execution

Two protagonists were photographed in our Barcelona studio on fully built domestic sets, designed to feel like real birthday celebrations. The serpent was entirely developed in 3D as volumetric smoke, soft enough to read as vapor, yet defined enough to suggest a living form.
